part 2 of the n800

back to what i was saying…

purchasing a mobile device boiled down to a few factors for me.

1. price. im not making any money yet, and I still dont have a nice bed to sleep on, so id figured with the remaining tax refund, id treat my back.

2. extra mobility. i wanted something that I could pocket. i already have a mac book pro, so i also figured any away place from the home office, id just bring the laptop if i plan to do any programming.

3. battery life. i really would’nt want to spend +100 dollars on a battery so id have to pick the device with the longest battery life.

now out of all the portable devices, i think the nokia n800 is the perfect fit for me. its the cheapest(could be purchased for ~360), the size is just right to walk around with it in your pocket, and the battery life is probably the longest out of the ux, oqo, and q1 only because it can quickly go from sleep to awake and back to sleep again. actually i dont have first hand experience with other mobile devices except for the 6700 pda from verizon. man, that pda drains battery like no tomorrow.

even though i choose the n800 for now, if i had the money(whenever my sites start generating some profits), id be the next in line in buying the oqo 02+. =)

got me a new toy, the N800.

so for the past few months, ive been debating on what mobile device to purchase so i can totally be connected online all the time(sounds depressing huh?).

since i am starting to launch sites now, i would like to be able to access my web sites, databases, and emails to make sure everything is fine 24/7. how unprofessional it is to see a rails error page because i need to restart mongrel, or i missed a test step and a user uncovers a hole in the code? i justify this purchase because id like to one day free myself from my 8hr cubicle job and daily 1-2 hour commute. therefore, i have the mentality to go brute force(learned this from highschool wrestling), in things i do.

some of the devices i considered,

-the samsung q1

-sony ux180p

-oqo 01+, or the 02

-nokia n800

the winner n800!

why? more to come later…
